Mr. David Mountz was born in Mt. Clemens, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit. He grew up in St. Clair Shores, on the shores of Lake Saint Clair and earned his high school degree with honors from Lakeview High School. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan in 1993. After an internship in television news showed him that he just wasn’t meant for journalism, he began a fifteen-year career in sales. His job selling world language programs to K-12 schools showed him that teaching in the classroom was where he was meant to be. Earning his Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from DePaul University in 2011, he thankfully found his new home at Clinton.
In Mr. Mountz’ classroom, learning is thematic with all subject matter intertwined. His second graders will learn about reading comprehension strategies while immersing themselves in the Wild West or create artistic posters of the solar system, for example. When children see that one subject is not independent of any other, their learning deepens. He wants children to leave his classroom hungry to learn more. Nothing could make him happier to be a teacher.
