Bilingual Program

Picture
English is a second language for over 50% of Clinton students. Our students speak 45 different languages and our staff speaks 12 different languages. The goal of the bilingual program is to help students acquire English as soon as possible through English ESL lessons. Not all English Language Learners (ELLs) are in self-contained bilingual classrooms. Many ELLs are placed in regular classes with English as a Second Language (ESL)-endorsed teachers.

When enrolling at Clinton, families complete a Home Language Survey.  If parents answer "Yes" to the question "Is a language other than English spoken at home?" a language screener is administered to determine if the student requires English Language support. Support will then be given by an ESL endorsed teacher.
